Going Platinum: Recapping the First Point Scoring Day of 2016 Power League
The top four teams in the U18 and U16 Puget Sound Region Power League qualify for a special power league division where they face off against the top four teams from the Columbia Empire Region (Southern Washington and Oregon.) The competition for these spots was fierce as many of the top teams faced each other for the first time this season.
U18 Puget Sound Region Power League
Washington Volleyball Academy 18 Mizuno continued to build on their second place finish at the Matt Hartner Memorial tournament on MLK weekend by winning flight one at the first point scoring event. They defeated Seattle Jrs. 17s in the final and the two teams will be joined by Kent Juniors 17s and 18s as the Puget Sound Region representatives for the first Platinum event.
Sudden Impact 18 Tsunami had a disappointing weekend after their win in Oregon. They will stay in flight one where they will work to earn their way into Platinum against the likes of Puget Sound Volleyball Academy 17 Joe, who won flight two in the first event. They were joined by two other U17 teams moving to the top flight as WVBA Mizuno 17 and Northwest Juniors 17 UA Black moved up as well.
U16 Puget Sound Region Power League The top four of the U16 Power League Flight one reads like a who’s who of Puget Sound Region clubs with Puget Sound Volleyball Academy 16 Steph, Kent Juniors 16 Baden, Sudden Impact 16 Thunder, and Washington Volleyball Academy 16 Mizuno moving up to platinum for event number 2. South Sound VBC 16 Black won the final of flight two over Olympic Premier 16 Infinity. Both teams will move into flight one along with 253 Elite 16 and Space Needle VF 16 Reign.
U15 Puget Sound Region Power League Sudden Impact 15 Typhoon edged out Kent Junior 15 Baden for the top spot in the first week of U15 Power League. Two U14 teams, Power Surge 14 Black and Puget Sound VBA 14 Jordyn, moved to flight one to join Puget Sound VBA 14 Todd and West Coast Evolution 14 in the top flight of the higher division power league. Because there is no platinum division for the U15 power league, they have three teams moving up and three teams moving down at each event.
U14 Puget Sound Region Power League Boost 14 took the top spot in the U14 Power League with a win over Capital Ice 14 Kelsey in the final. Both Snohomish Valley Fusion 13s and 253 Elite 13s managed to fend off challenges from U14 teams in the crossover and maintain their flight one status. They will be joined for event two by Lake VBC 14-1, 253 Elite 14 Miller and Puget Sound VBA 14 Rod in the top flight.
U12 Puget Sound Region Power League The U12 division got its first taste of action for the new year in a modified seeding day and event one format. It was Lake Tapps U12 Orange that came out on top, with Puget Sound VBA 12 Kim, Boost 12 and Puyallup Juniors 12 National nipping at their heels. Congrats to all of the athletes in the U12 division that got their first taste of Power League Competition. Keep up the hard work and enjoy your experience this season.
The Next Puget Sound Region Power League dates are February 6 & 7 at locations throughout the Puget Sound Region. Locations and schedules are set to be posted by the end of the day on Wednesday February 3. You will find these on the Power League Page of PSRVB.org
